K-POP 2024 january

The year opened with no less than four comebacks from heavyweight fourth generation girl groups

ITZY – Untouchable. Straight off the blocks with a confident banger. Top non-lexible vocals (“Bam-bam-bam-ba-ri!”) and the girls literally destroying a cohort of riot cops. Strong energy. Single track for their double-platinum Born To Be album.

NMIXX – DASH. Following the pre-release single Soñar (Breaker) at the end of 2023, NMIXX consolidated their Fe3O4: Break EP with the hyper-kinetic single DASH. Later in the month a performance video for the prog-folk-pop favourite Run For Roses was also released.

IVE – All Night (feat. Saweetie). IVE’s first English language single was a collaboration with US rapper Saweetie on a remake of Icona Pop’s All Night. In the video we see them trashing the office with full-on gay disco energy.

(G)-IDLE – Wife & Superlady. (G)-IDLE’s second album, simply entitled 2, is bookended by Soyeon’s anthemic Superlady and the punchy bubblegum sass of Wife. It will be a rollercoaster of a year, as the countdown to whether Cube Entertainment and the girls will renew their contract that was due to expire, whether they will maintain their unity as a group or whether they will move onto individual solo careers.

More on all of that in our November episode.
